First meeting of New Data Spaces Junior Researcher Network

24.01.2025 Event Report
First meeting of New Data Spaces Junior Researcher Network

On 23-24 January 2025, the CONNECT project facilitated the first meeting of the New Data Spaces Junior Research Network.

Twenty (20) early career researchers, including pre-doctoral, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers from 15 projects, came together to share their projects and learn from each other's work and perspectives.

On the first day, each researcher introduced themselves and their project, followed by a roundtable discussion on common opportunities and challenges within the New Data Spaces programme. Through these presentations and discussions, researchers were able to make connections across projects, and several opportunities for hackathons and collaborative problem solving were identified, particularly in the areas of working with audio-visual data and web tracking data.

The focus of the second day was a structured group conversation bridging interdisciplinary perspectives on four themes fundamental to the work of the New Data Spaces programme - validity, reliability, generalisability and generative AI. The world café-style conversation helped create a common language across disciplines and renewed everyone's understanding of these core concepts and how they relate to each project. The meeting concluded with a discussion on resources and opportunities to support the engagement and networking of New Data Spaces early career researchers in the coming years.

Thanks go to the Programme Committee, the Managing Director and CONNECT team, for organising and leading, the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi), for hosting the event, and to all the junior researchers who attended, for their enthusiastic participation.
